E1 and CORDAP strengthen partnership to support our oceans

The G20 Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP) and E1 are proud to strengthen a partnership for the conservation and restoration of the world’s coral reefs and wider marine ecosystems. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Carlos Duarte, CORDAP Executive Director, and Rodi Basso, E1 CEO and Co-Founder, at the Season 2 inaugural race in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Through our renewed partnership, we will be working together in the years to come to drive increased awareness and fundraising activations to support global efforts to restore and regenerate the world’s corals and oceans.

The rapid decline of coral reefs is no longer a distant concern. It is a crisis unfolding before our eyes, which requires Immediate and collective action. As CORDAP partners with E1, we aim to showcase how sports do transcend boundaries – not only for the competition in itself – but to unite people worldwide to champion aquatic conservation. Saving corals is a race against time because the devastation we expected to see in a decade is happening now. Tomorrow is today. Professor Carlos M. Duarte

E1 is proud to mobilise its global reach and network of stakeholders to contribute to CORDAP’s important cause. In Jeddah, a city both E1 and CORDAP are privileged to call home, we launched this partnership with a series of high-impact activations engaging with the entire E1 ecosystem:

  • Aoki Racing Team visit to KAUST: Represented by Steve Aoki, HRH Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Salman Al Saud, and pilots Mashael Alobaidan and Dani Clos, Aoki Racing Team participated in a visit to a coral reef in the Red Sea completely destroyed by bleaching. This was followed by research discussions and presentations on coral research by PhD candidates and professors at the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology.
  • Westbrook Racing: During the race weekend, Westbrook Racing announced a Local Impact Partnership with CORDAP, as part of the broader E1-CORDAP collaboration framework.
  • Acceleration Festival: CORDAP increased their engagement with E1 fans in Jeddah, with a booth activation in the Acceleration Festival showcasing their work and portfolio of coral restoration projects.
  • “Tomorrow is Today” panel: E1 invited CORDAP, KAUST and the General Organisation for Conservation of Coral Reef and Sea Turtles in the Red Sea to a panel discussion in the Ocean Club to highlight their efforts to fight the threats posed to coral reef ecosystems.

As part of E1’s sustainability initiatives, we are delighted to strengthen our long-standing partnership with CORDAP to use E1’s global reach to raise awareness of the need for conservation and preservation of the world’s coral reefs and marine ecosystems. Signing this Memorandum of Understanding with CORDAP also means E1 will help drive fundraising efforts focussed on marine regeneration which is vital to so many communities and to future generations. Rodi Basso

We look forward to building on this partnership in the years to come to act on our shared commitment to marine and environmental stewardship, activating the E1 community to support CORDAP’s projects.
