Team Brady wins E1 Lago Maggiore GP

ITALY – Saturday 28 June 2025 –Team Brady powered to their first victory of the 2025 UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF as the fourth round of the season saw the all-electric raceboat series take to the waters of Lake Maggiore, Italy.

The reigning Champions of the Water backed by American football legend Tom Brady returned to form in commanding style after pilot and powerboating star Sam Coleman brought the E1 RaceBird across the line in first. Teammate Emma Kimiläinen set up the win with a victory in the place race earlier in the day winning her group by over nine seconds. The victory marks the first Team Brady victory of the season.

Sam Coleman said: “It’s about time! This is great. I am so proud of the team, so happy with the result. Just so happy, amazing!”

The E1 Lago Maggiore GP race was steeped in drama with a disqualification due to a false start leading to Aoki Racing Team being excluded from the final. Team AlUla Championed by LeBron James had their running cut short following technical difficulties following a collision with Team Drogba. And in the final place race, Team Drogba and Team Brazil also made contact due to conditions from the wake in a turn – leading to tight racing and a tense showdown.

Tennis legend Rafael Nadal’s Team Rafa now head to the top of the Championship leaderboard just seven points ahead of Aoki Racing Team after securing second place in Italy. The race in Lake Maggiore has increased the momentum with the competition closing between all nine teams.

Further down the order, Blue Rising rounded out the podium position, while Hollywood legend Will Smith’s team, Westbrook Racing finished fourth.

PIF Pilot of the Race was awarded to Team Brady’s Finnish pilot Emma Kimiläinen who held off Lucas Ordóñes in the dramatic first final to set up the win.

The podium placing teams were presented with their trophies by Rodi Basso, E1 founder and Chief Executive Officer, Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, Rafaelle Chiulli, UIM President and Italian sports presenter and actress Giusy Meloni.

Rodi Basso, E1 founder and Chief Executive Officer, said: “It’s been wonderful to bring the Championship to Italy for this fourth round of the second season. E1 fans here by the lake and at home around the world had an exciting day of racing.

“As the competition gets closer to the final round in Miami, these incredible teams continue to push the E1 RaceBirds to their absolute limits in pursuit of victory. My congratulations to Team Brady, our reigning Champions of the Water, and to our partners and fans for another electrifying weekend of racing. The Championship battle continues in Monaco in two weeks!”

Organised under the Patronage of the Region of Lombardy and the President of the Region Mr Attilio Fontana, the race was hosted at Marina di Verbella, the premier facility which has been home to the E1 Pilot Academy training programme that finds, develops and nurtures future E1 racing stars.

Located within the Ticino Natural Park, the racecourse is sheltered from winds and waves, offering optimal racing conditions for the equal mix of male and female pilots to get the very best speeds out of their E1 RaceBirds, which reach up to 93kph (50knots). Around 140 boats turned out to spectate, watching the racing action up close.

The 2025 UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF is shaping up to be fiercely competitive, with all nine teams striving to perfect their skills in piloting the E1 RaceBird – the series’ cutting-edge all-electric raceboat.

Following their departure from Lake Maggiore, the championship will be migrating to the iconic home of racing, Monaco, for its fifth race of the 2025 season.

After that, the Championship will break new ground in Africa, with the lively coastline of Lagos hosting the penultimate race of the championship. The highly anticipated finale will take place in Miami, where one team will be crowned the 2025 “Champions of the Water”.
